Well, I just got back from the “Arts, Innovation and Creativity” Conference in Rockland. What a blast! I got to meet some of the students in my class face to face! That doesn’t always happen in an online course.
There were all sorts of sessions and workshops available. The hard part was picking which ones you could miss, because so many were so cool. I was a minor part of the session that dealt with comics and Webcomics as legitimate literature. We played 5-card Nancy and used Flickr, iPhoto, and Comic Life to do our own digital storytelling.
It was a weekend of good company, good content, good food, and even good accommodations.

Thanks for mentioning Comic Life.
It looks like a way to encourage reluctant writers to get engaged and productive.
My opportunities to integrate information literacy into the subject area curriculum are often short notice and confined to a short time frame. A drag and drop application like this one that doesn’t rely on prior mastery of specific skills sounds like a perfect vehicle for me to use.
It doesn’t look like a free download. How did you get access at the conference?

All MLTI laptops, for HS educators and MS teachers and students, have Comic Life installed. It’s in the applications folder.
BUT, the version on the MacBooks does not integrate with iLife ‘08, so you can’t use iPhoto directly. However, you can download the updated version from Plasq, and install it in the MyApps folder…it’ll work very well then. Don’t do the update that pops up when starting the Comic Life that came with the MLTI MacBook.

Phil, thanks for the heads up about the downloads.
I am charging my MacBook now and was going to try it this afternoon.
Since this program is not on the student laptops, did the people at your conference brainstorm any ideas for using it with a class? Maybe I will have to save this one until the high school students get individual laptops. Any predictions on that time line?
I liked 5 Card Nancy, too, but frankly some of the samples would never make it through the filter.
